Never Ending Quest Log TTRPG #4: The Path of The Paladin
In a world quite different to our own, where the creatures and people of the land can bend senses to their will, a book once came into existence. This book, so the legends go, could tell people what they needed to know, or guide them where they needed to go.
Could it tell the future? Did it know the past? Or was it simply guiding people through their predetermined fate? Nobody knows, because until recently this book was only thought to be a myth, a legend, a fabrication of story-tellers with wild imaginations.
Off the coast of Orpegeia and south of the ports of Fisher’s View, lies the modest town of Eredet, nestled in the mountains. It’s here that a book that seems to bear much resemblance to these old legends has come into the possession of a fairly unassuming man by the name of Luthion Fairwords.
After an attempt by a mysterious thief to steal the book only a few days ago, it’s become apparent to him that he needs some better protection. An Aeshi that can talk to trees and an easily confused cat girl aren’t necessarily going to cut it, as proficient as their skills may be.
Across the sea is the city of Hubante, the capital of the continent. This city is home to The Parliament, an elected gathering of representatives for the five major races of the continent – the Hyuen, the Trelin, the Aeshi, the Urdon and the Khisha. Their responsibility? Keeping the nations of Orpegeia prosperous and peaceful.
Each race has their own unique presence within the city, but the one of specific interest to us today is the Hyuens. More specifically the Paladin Order.
In the far distant past, many centuries ago, Hyuens were a war mongering race, bathing the continent in bloodshed and destruction as their exploitation of Feelin – the Sense of touch – drove countless tribes towards ceaseless slaughter. In fact, it was a desire to bring the Hyuen’s damaging conflicts to an end that originally motivated the Trelins to develop what we now known as The Parliament
The Paladin Order was conceived, in light of The Parliament’s creation, as a means for Hyuen’s to cultivate their affinity towards Feelin in ways that were virtuous, noble, and kind to others. Within this order, we find a stalwart Paladin aspirant by the name of Nimicry Slumborn. Now aware of the existence of the Quest Log, the Parliament has requested that this man take on the enviable responsibility of keeping it safe until it can be transported to the main continent.
What trials will Nimicry face in his duties to protect the Quest Log? How strongly will his chivalry and noble heart be tested? And what is the history behind his unique surname? Let’s find out!
It’s time once again to open the book…
